Poverty Simulations

Operation: New View CAA facilitates poverty simulations to help participants better understand poverty. Using the Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS) Kit, participants role-play lives of low income families and find out what it is like to live in poverty for a month.

Here are some takeaways from past poverty simulation participants:

“I’ve done this simulation before, and again I’ve just had greater realization of the struggles of poverty along with the sacrifices people make.”

“There is a lot we are unaware of about poverty and what it takes to survive.”

“I learned that living in poverty is very stressful and I am very fortunate to have the life I have.”

“Society revolves around money and those with less face an insane amount of struggle.”

“I learned how people living in poverty have to make hard choices about what to pay each month.”
